This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students want to learn how to draw, paint and sculpt, to be artists. The majority of my students are excited to be in an art room because they have not had it since the third grade. I want my students to have an understanding of the elements and principles of art and design.

All freshman are required to take my foundations of art course and I want to make it 100% worth their while.

My students come from all over New York City. More than 65% get free lunch and come from families that can not fully provide for them. My students like the small school environment, the faculty, and each other. They want to learn to draw and express their emotions through creative outlets. They lack the confidence that they can be artists and I want to show them how they can.

My Project

I'd like to be able to paint with my students but I need some help getting materials. I have a couple of projects lined up using paint. The first is a watercolor focused project where students will create an album cover for their favorite band. Students will learn about all the various watercolor techniques and about design in order to create a successful and attractive cover.

The second project has students using symbolism to paint their Spirit Animal with acrylic paint.

They research the animal that embodies their personality then paint it in a setting that best fits who they are. It is a fun and personal project that the students always enjoy.

We need the essentials in order to have a colorful and exciting class. I am asking for thirty-four watercolor pans, brushes, pastel paper pads, watercolor paper, colored pencils, boxes of pink erasers, and an assortment of different colors of acrylic paint.
