My Project

My students are special because they are all bravely entering a new phase of their young lives as they enter middle school. I want to ease that transition with an organized and welcoming classroom, filled with books and magazines to inspire them to grow and learn during their middle school years.

I plan to use the Scholastic magazines to introduce current events in a professionally-produced short-form read that can be consumed briefly and makes the best use of limited class time for students to read and provide feedback on what they have learned.

The books I have requested are all popular titles my students will know and want to read. Middle school is one of the key periods to inspire young people to read and develop learning skills they will carry forward into high school and their post-K-12 lives. There is so much terrific literature for middle-grade readers, and I want to provide an atmosphere that encourages my students to enjoy reading and inspires them to find topics and series that will encourage them to build stamina and knowledge for life-long learning.

Finally, I asked for some games that promote ELA strategies in a fun, engaging manner. Some days you just have to have fun. It doesn’t hurt to sneak in some learning with the laughter!
