Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a new teacher in an underserved community, I am requesting vital materials for elementary art classes. The students at my school have not had an art class for over a year. Almost all of them receive free or reduced lunches and do not have access to art materials outside of school. Every day the students ask when they will be able to start painting again.

The materials you donate will empower these children to express themselves and develop their creative voice.

We will be learning the fundamentals of art and color through painting and drawing. Visual art is an essential part of a well rounded education and nurtures self esteem and critical thinking abilities in students. Additionally, it has been shown to increase testing scores and overall academic performance.

The students will be given a chance to reflect on their work through journaling and discussion, and will work as a team to help each other grow. At the end of the year, their masterpieces will be part of an in-school exhibit co-curated the students.

In the words of Pablo Picasso, "Every child is an artist," and these young artists are counting on your support!
