Our kids come to us with very different needs and abilities, which makes it easy to love all the various quirks and attitudes they bring. Some kids have excellent listening comprehension skills and can understand everything you say; others struggle and need repeated directions; then there are those who, due to a language barrier, cannot understand anything we say. We currently have students within our school who come from different countries with no knowledge of the English language. Can you imagine? Going to a different country and being expected to be able to learn when you cannot understand a word that is being said. These headphones will help eliminate that barrier. Teachers and students will use them to allow conversations and for the students to follow along with the lesson being taught. With these headphones, we not only want to help break the barrier and allow learning to become more available. We want to encourage our county to create funding for the rest of our public schools to start the elimination of language barriers county-wide by using these headphones on a trial basis at our school.
Moving to a country with a different language is hard, but imagine having the expectation of learning standards without knowledge of the language being used.
With these headphones, our students can enjoy learning and connect with peers and adults. Even though there is a considerable barrier between our students and their ability to interact with peers, adults, and the lessons being taught, they have not complained and remained resilient in trying to further their education. This shows the effort these students put into their education and how special these students are. They could and would excel in their educational career if given a chance.
