My Students

The students I serve attend a comprehensive Title I high school in a low socioeconomic urban area of the city. They are students with autism and intellectual disabilities.

The students can be very determined when they set their mind to something.

Due to the severity of their disabilities it is difficult for them to get advanced training for competitive employment. These students are ready for every and any challenge put to them.

My Project

My students are always eager to learn and experience new things. Although, my students' abilities are low, they never allow their learning differences dictate what they are capable of accomplishing. I love their dedication to their learning and our school!

The materials that we are hoping to receive from DonorsChoose.org will assist my students with increasing their skills in money management, communication skills, customer services skills, and providing with the experience of having a real life job.

We are developing a mobile coffee cart to serve staff and students.

Ms. Horton Martin Luther King High School Grades 9-12
