Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a mixed population of Hispanics, Native Americans, African Americans, and Caucasians. We are a Title I elementary school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students come to school in the same clothes every day. Our students do not have an opportunity to experience, extracurricular activities at home or outside of school. We do our best to bring current educational trends to our school to benefit our students.

This will be the second year of our "2 Way" school where each child will experience an English and a Spanish instructor.

My Project

Ocean books, a sensory bin with ocean animals, writing prompts, and dot-to-dot math will help give my class a hands-on ocean experience n the classroom. We received a grant for an aquarium field trip. We need items to enhance our project-based learning -- the ocean! My students learn best with hands-on, sensory-type activities. These items will focus on the whole child and aid in a deeper understanding of life underwater! The games chosen will aid in social play and center time in the classroom. Books will be used in small group work as well as writing projects.
