My Students

Imagine reading about magical places in the world and never seeing them. Or learning about revolution and not understanding the people involved. My students will be participating in an exchange with Czech students. We will read Kafka and Kundera, learn Czech, and investigate the Velvet Revolution.

Students participating in this exchange program come from diverse backgrounds, many from impoverished urban neighborhoods.

They attend a dynamic college prep school that aims to give them an alternative to their neighborhood school. The 21 students selected for this exchange submitted essays and underwent a rigorous selection process. They are all deserving and are grateful for this opportunity to expand their cultural horizon.

My Project

The texts requested will enrich the students' experience in Prague and at home in their seminar about Kafka and Kundera. The literature will prepare them for an immersion in Czech culture when we are in Prague and allow them to connect the literature to a specific time and place.

My project allows young people to connect with the people and history of a nation thousands of miles away, and with a history radically different from ours.

Many of the participants receive free or reduced price lunches and would never travel otherwise.
