Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth grade class consists of 16 boys and 8 girls, all energy all the time. They are an enthusiastic bunch, they are unique and special in their own way. Despite their unique differences they have managed to find common ground and have created an environment of trust and respect for each other, they are a tight knit group. I am proud of how far they have come thus far.

Their standardized test results do not show the many talents they posses, my students are artist, athletes, dancers, singers, technicians, they are extremely caring, loving, and kind.

Most of my students are English Language Learners. They therefore, not only struggle with the English language, they struggle academically. They all work very hard however, they come ready to work and give 110% effort each and every day. My students are amazing!

My Project

The confidence needed to excel in the classroom is sometimes found outside the classroom. Sports are connected to teaching children about health, gaining self-esteem, collaboration, discipline. social skills, improved energy and stamina, not to mention the ability to bounce back from a defeat. These skills are transferred into the classroom and allow students to excel academically. Through sports children learn the social skills to interact with others more effectively in the classroom.

Most of my students will never have the opportunity to participate in organized sports teams.

Joining an organized sports team can be expensive and time consuming. Most of my students' parents have two jobs just to make ends meet. I encourage my students to play sports for health purposes, but they can gain so much more. My school provides minimal playground equipment, but most I have bought myself. I want my students to learn to use the proper equipment of each sport and know the feeling of teamwork . We need this equipment to be able to play, from which I believe can inspire my students to dream and imagine.
