The Colorful World of Glitter in ELA

My students need a variety of materials to make sure all of their learning needs are being met. Crayons, glitter, paper, and highlighters are needed.

My Students

My High School is one of the most culturally diverse schools in the country. With over 3,000 students in an inner-city environment, supplies and materials can be difficult to come by and nearly impossible for a majority of the student body to afford themselves. My students are unique, kind, energetic, and work multiple jobs while still attending school. The school is currently in a bargaining process for a new building but unfortunately this will take many years to complete. I am looking for materials for my room to help create a learning environment that will help these young innovators create, question, and dream.

My Project

The use of art supplies in my ELA classroom is an every-day necessity. Students use crayons, glitter, colored paper, loose leaf paper, and other materials to transform literary analysis and vocabulary acquisition into visible projects. I use highlighters in my class for all reading assignments in order for students to use active reading strategies. Students also use these highlighters to make corrections in editing their essays using specific colors to pull out textual quotations, paragraph organization, sentence fluency and more. With 150 students, these materials run out at a rapid pace.

By donating to this project, you have become a main contributor to an evolving educational process where students are encouraged to bring their individual creativity into the classroom.
