My Students

The school year has been off to an amazing start so far. Although my class size is small this year, the learning that occurs is quite the opposite. Each day, my students show me how much they enjoy learning, and their academic and social improvements show their efforts.

We're located in Washington, DC in an area where students feel comfortable with their school community.

During recess, my students enjoy being able to play with their peers on the playground. Being in a specialized, self-contained program means they are unable to interact with their peers in general education as often as they would like. Coming from virtual learning, it is clear that they missed being able to socialize with their friends outside of their classroom too! While I enjoy being able to see them play outside, it's time to begin planning for indoor recess during the colder days.

My Project

This is a project with resources that will keep my students engaged on days where it is too cold outside to play! The items we are requesting will add to our beginning collection of resources to be used and can be used after the current school year.

I wish I could say that I had input on all of the resources from this project, but this is all my students' efforts!

Towards the beginning of the year, we made a list of items that may be needed should the weather get cold; items that could have a semblance of learning, my only request, while also being interactive. We have a collection of Lego pieces in the classroom, but we have no Lego people. The Lego City People Pack will compliment our budding Lego collection by allowing students to create businesses and neighborhoods...with people!

My students are also quite the fans of Minecraft and have shown interest in the Lego Minecraft Bridge that could be used with the Lego City People Pack. Since I definitely want to join in on the fun, I thought that we could engage in a class activity in using The Lego Star Wars Mandalorian kit. I think this activity could also allow us to engage in discussions relating to work in STEM.

My students are also fans of Crayola dough. From a teacher perspective, I love it because it isn't messy and free of harsh smells. My students love it because they get to create masterpieces in the form of culinary cuisines and structures!

Winter will soon be approaching which means that indoor recess is right around the corner. We hope you can help us with our project!
