My Students

The building blocks to learning start with building blocks.

I teach kindergarten at a public school in San Francisco.

We are a K-8 school, with an enrollment of over 550 students. All of the children at our school are learning Chinese as a second language. Everyday, the children have an opportunity to learn through play and use the language they have been learning.

My Project

Building with blocks encourage counting, sorting, measuring, and teamwork. The children have built many elaborate structures and I would love to add something new for a little variety. I have watched the students start from building simple towers to a structure with many levels and dimensions. They're very proud of the their work and love to have pictures taken of their structures!

Building blocks can be a stepping stone into beginning math and science. Students learn to plan a project, build it: figure out balance, heights and widths, and communication skills to work together.
