This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are eager to learn and take joy in working in a bright learning environment. Help us create a safe reading and testing environment for our students.
Our students are brilliant children that come from challenging backgrounds.
They live in the poorest area of their city, in one of the poorest cities in the United States. They are curious, yet bashful. They are inquisitive, yet lack the confidence to grab hold of the opportunities laid before them. They need nurturing and motivation, as well as a positive environment, where they will feel excited to learn, and have fun while doing so.
My Project
I love seeing my students' eyes widen with happiness when new books arrive. As a librarian, I see the need for more books for our students. They are always eager to checkout the latest titles. If students know that a book is new, they flock to it and desire to read it immediately.
I have seen new titles improve my students' love for reading.
When I first began working at our campus as the librarian, students checked out books for the sake of checking out, only to return them without having read any of them. They were disinterested and unimpressed and felt it was a chore to read. As I started asking them for input, a few wish lists and some grants later, I was able to get them new titles, and boy did it make a difference. They are avid readers now and are always giving me reviews on their most favorite titles.
