My Students

My class is a medical homebound class of 8 students with multiple disabilities. These students range in age from 3 to 18 years old and they represent multicultural and diverse backgrounds. These students are nonverbal and receive intensive modifications to meet their goals.

The primary handicapping condition of being intellectually disabled is compounded by various other health conditions, such as seizure disorders.

These students require direct intensive supported instruction in their homes. They receive total care for self-help needs. These students each have a cortical vision impairment (CVI) and are limited in the areas of fine and gross motor skills.

My classroom is a virtual homebound classroom brought via bright and happy, interactive slides delivered daily. My virtual homebound classroom is one requiring vibrant, engaging visuals and manipulatives as learning supports.

My Project

These musical instruments will continue to enhance their at-home learning environment that I strive to create. Personal student instruments will enhance their overall aesthetic experience while learning virtually.

All of these instruments have been chosen with my students in mind.

I have watched them as they "light-up" when I use a tambourine, a bell, or a drum as a warm-up to their at-home virtual instruction. Students will be able to choose an instrument to hold and play with partner assistance.

With these new musical instruments, my students will be able to shake bells to the count that I display on a flashcard. They will be able to feel the vibration of the sound as they hold their instruments.

The best way to increase student interest and attention during their at-home learning sessions virtually is through music. These instruments will help my students enjoy their time at home working on IEP goals. My students already have shown an interest in musical instruments and music play, and this project will only help enrich their experiences at home.
