Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am starting a yoga and meditation club for our 6-8th grade students in August 2024. Our school is being restructured, reorganized, and rebranded, which means a lot of significant changes for our students. This club will help students mindfully connect with their bodies and emotions and find inner peace. In our club, students will learn yoga, meditation, and mindful breathing techniques.

I selected Lotus Club because our students, like the lotus flower, have strength, resilience, and beautiful souls.

In yoga, the lotus flower also serves as a reminder to the practitioner. It reminds us that heavy feelings (such as sadness) are not bad, but those feelings are often the foundation of the beauty that comes from them. The students at my school usually struggle with life at home in the community, but they bloom when they are at school.

My goal is to offer Lotus Club three times a week before the school day starts. This way, students can start their day calmly and centered, which will hopefully continue until the dismissal bell.
