Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds originating from all of New York City's five boroughs. Most of the students come from low-income homes and so asking parents to contribute to expensive programs is difficult.

The school offers students the chance to develop skills for careers in health professions and so will enable them to prosper economically.

The majority of the curriculum is Science-focused and students only take one Arts-themed class. I aim to provide them with the best possible experience to enrich their understanding of music.

My Project

Many students at our school have expressed a desire to learn how to play an instrument but, sadly, there aren't any available. This project will provide the instruments so that students can learn to play guitar, drums, bass, and piano. Additionally, it will allow students to collaborate on performance, song-writing, and arranging, building a community of student musicians who are able to express themselves through collaborative creation.

Music can transform a young person's life, giving them a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and pride that will last a lifetime.

This project seeks to provide the necessary resources to open up that possibility for students in these difficult times.
