This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I cannot stress importance of acquiring specific items for a kindergarten/first-grade self-contained special education classroom.

In the pursuit of inclusivity and support for all students, self-contained special education classrooms must prioritize providing the tools and resources necessary for success.These items not only address sensory needs, language concerns, comprehension, and attention difficulties but also contribute to making students feel comfortable.

Velcro: Versatile and vital, Velcro serves multiple purposes. It offers tactile comfort for children with sensory sensitivities, and its use in schedules, communication boards, and interactive materials helps with fine motor skill development.

Carpet: A soft carpet provides sensory comfort and a designated space for movement and sensory breaks, assisting children who struggle with attention and self-regulation. It also reduces noise levels, creating a conducive learning environment.

Sensory Sequin Wall: This interactive wall engages multiple senses, fostering creativity and fine motor skills. It empowers students to control their environment, enhancing their comfort and sense of autonomy.

Personal Pencil Bins: Personalized bins promote independence and communication skills. Students learn to manage their supplies, enhancing language development and executive functioning. This organization reduces distractions, improving comprehension and attention.

Organizer Shelf: Offering structure and order, an organizer shelf enhances comprehension and attention span. It provides a place for visual supports, learning materials, and personal belongings, reducing anxiety in students.

Calming Strips: Placed strategically around the classroom, calming strips create designated calming zones. They offer visual and tactile comfort, helping students regulate their emotions, improve attention, and boost comprehension.

Laminating Sheets: Laminating sheets preserve and enhance visual supports, critical for communication and comprehension. Durable visuals aid language development, maintain attention, and facilitate comprehension.

A supportive learning environment in self-contained special education classrooms is essential for students' success. By investing we empower every child to reach their potential academically and emotionally, fostering inclusivity in our classrooms.
