My Students

My students live and breathe art. They are the type of students who look for me during lunch, hoping they can come in during their free time to work. Take work home? Without question. Work on multiple projects at once? Of course! They have passion and ambition and work tirelessly to master their craft.

This group of students inspire me to work harder for them.

My students have been with me for the past three years (this is year four!) and I have been very lucky to watch them grow and develop into very talented artists.

My Project

My advanced art students will be using silk paint, water-based resist, and Habotai silk to create scarves with unique and one of a kind designs. Painting on silk is a very different experience from painting on canvas. It's not exact, it's difficult to be precise and mistakes cannot be erased.

Being advanced students, they are eager for a challenge and a new experience.

Visual art is all about experiences and I've always tried to include something new into my curriculum. Most of my students know about basic drawing and painting but have have never heard of silk painting or ever painted on a surface other than paper or canvas. Aside from teaching the basics or using typical art materials, I love to introduce something unique, fun, and unexpected. I want them to see that a painting is not limited to paper and canvas, that there is a very rich history of painting on fabrics for the last 2000 years.
