Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our cheer program is home to the Seward Park Varsity Cheer Team and the New Design Knights JV Team. Both teams welcome diverse groups of individuals from the campus and school community. Our Junior Varsity school club team aims to prepare interested youth in competitive level cheer on the campus Varsity level in the following years. As TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) sports, there is emphasis placed on learning to improve one’s self for the good of the whole. Our primary responsibility is to increase prosocial behavior by supporting our school's JV and varsity basketball teams in the Fall & Spring, prepare youth with skills and knowledge for competitive Varsity Cheer, and promoting positive school culture.

As collective groups, we seek to engage in building responsibility, collaborative creativity, meeting/exceeding academic and behavior expectations, being role models for healthy choices, challenge each other to use positive ways to problem solve and seek to empower others to do the same in our community.

Through teamwork, we motivate fan support, foster school spirit, promote teamwork, provide inspiration and enthusiasm, and encourage good sportsmanship at ALL home basketball games/events. We display a positive attitude, pride, accountability and respect within our team school and community.

My Project

Have you ever spent a few days away at camp during the long summer months? Remember the time when you made friends over a campfire and s'mores? This year we are taking our students to the UCA cheer camp. Pineforest UCA Cheer Camp for the first time!

Our mission and this mission of UCA is to help our cheerleaders build not only their cheer skills, but their leadership and other prosocial skills.

The UCA team has invited us to attend a 3 day overnight camp in Pineforest PA, to participate in both game day and competitive cheerleading. The UCA camp is a premier cheerleading camp recognized nationally for their development and leadership. Since 1974, UCA has instilled leadership skills and personal confidence in more than four million athletes on and off the field. UCA's mission is to inspire leadership both on and off the field. With curriculum centered on game cheerleading and crowd leadrship, there's no better place to master these leadership skills.

In addition to team bonding and leadership, the 3 day, 2 night experience is designed to foster the skills students (all of us!) need to be responsible, caring, empowered members of society after high school. They need the vision, discipline, motivation, and leadership skills to guide our team into our competition season in hopes to qualify for Nationals for the FIRST time!
