Where is our future Monet, Pollock, Cezanne, Dali and Rockwell? Our Elementary is a Language Arts/Social Justice Magnet, a public school. We teach responsibility, citizenship, and compassion. We enjoy a rich diversity of cultures and celebrate them all. For the past three years, our hard-working teachers were able to improve test scores and develop our older students` political awareness. They read newspapers and magazines, access educational websites to stay informed about issues ignored by the media. Their test scores this year soared like never before. However, where is our future artists? In order to strive, we need art materials to help our students channel their emotions, their thoughts, and creativity. We desperately looked for art materials, but our school still can’t afford them. Although the Bush administration created the No Child Left Behind policy, no money ever came to us and we just found out that we would’t receive any money for art since the Art Program has been cut!!! 87% of our students get free lunch, our families and caretakers can’t afford donation. Only generous donors could help us now to improve the kids` education and help them express and let loose their creative side.
