My Students

We need a variety of art supplies to that each student can explore their inner artist!

My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another.

They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. My students enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information. I often integrate the arts into our lessons so that my students can make personal connections to their learning and demonstrate what they know in creative ways.

My Project

We don't just want to do art when it is time for art. We want to be able to incorporate the arts across our curriculum, and to do this we need a variety of supplies. During independent work time, my students use stopwatches to track how how they are at a station. I'm asking for button cell batteries because unfortunately the batteries often need to be replaced. The Rory’s story cubes are three sets of nine dice with different pictures on each face. These cubes will be to supplement our creative writing. Each table will be given a set of cubes and write a story based on what they roll. The poem book and coloring book will be mentor texts for our own poetry and illustrations. The markers will be used in all subject areas. We will sketch and record thoughts on our whiteboards with the dry erase markers. We'll outline our watercolor and oil pastel artwork with the sharpies. We'll color our pictures with the fine tip markers. Th ese resources will allow us to incorporate art in academic areas.

Art is important and should reach across all the disciplines.

When using art as way to demonstrate learning, students must apply their critical thinking skills and creativity as they look at the curriculum in new and exciting ways. By making a personal connection to their learning and processing it with art, the learning stays with them longer.
