The Art of Recycling!

Help me give my students the color-coded bags necessary to keep separating recyclable material separate from trash/single-use items and ensure the fidelity of our initiative once it is picked up by the sanitation department.

Plastic ocean pollution, a component of marine litter, injures and kills marine life, spreads toxins, and poses a potential threat to human health. Much of the debris (plastic in particular) that ends up in the ocean due to poor recycling or trash collection programs, especially from public spaces like sidewalks and parks, which often lack waste or recycling bins.

Not all plastic is bad.

Bike helmets, car airbags, and many medical supplies made with plastic save lives. Plastic water bottles can bring clean drinking water to people who don’t have it, and plastic straws can help people with disabilities drink. The problem is that most of us use and then toss way more plastic than we need.

With this project, I am hoping to teach the children in our school community about the importance of recycling and how it can help improve human health and the environment.

Teaching children to care for the environment is a learning experience that is an important part of growing up. It gives them skills in respect, empathy, patience, responsibility, and teaches them about consequences. But it also teaches them valuable lessons about sustainability and how we want to leave the world for future generations.

A sustainable future depends on what we do today, and good habits can become second nature.

The lessons we learn in school can lay the habits of a lifetime, and among the more important lessons we can teach our children is the nitty-gritty of recycling.

Thank you!
