My Project

In this age dominated by digital communication, the art of cursive writing is becoming lost. Research suggests that learning cursive writing offers cognitive benefits, improves fine motor skills and enhances neural connections and that is why I am requesting fountain pens, vintage paper and calligraphy pens. Recognizing the importance of this valuable skill, I would like to teach cursive writing to my upper elementary students.

Students will gain an appreciation for the historical and cultural significance of this form of communication as well as a new tool for expression in their academic and personal endeavors.

Students will develop confidence as their eye-hand coordination improves with practice and repetition. Students will be able to apply their newfound cursive writing skills in creative writing, letter writing and journaling.

By providing my students with the opportunity to learn and practice cursive writing, I aim to empower my students to communicate effectively in various contexts and come to appreciate the art of penmanship.
