Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book." ~Frank Serafini The ART activities in our learning environment have a basis in letterforms and sentence structure. Through visual literacy my children can find a love of reading.

My kids are intelligent and avid participants in learning opportunities throughout the day.

They yearn for validation in their classwork and so our school community supports a creative environment in both music and the visual Arts. This aids in reinforcing the importance of their education as the key to success and future. Students often engage in the artistic writing process as an extension of core subject understanding but are shown creative and flourishing ways to do so. I am proud to be one of the helpers when it comes to validating them.

My Project

With the help of letter templates and an array of different papers, My kids can grasp writing in its most immediate form comparing and contrasting concepts of word processing and type. My lessons using these materials can cover distinctions between automatic writing, diary keeping, and literature itself, all while demonstrating calligraphy techniques. A thrill for them will certainly be an activity replicating cursive handwriting with the use of nibs and india ink. In smaller groups students can manipulate clay in order to shape 3-D letterforms which serve to better understand type-face and serif components in writing. Students will brainstorm slogans and key phrases in a culminating community project. This text-based endeavor will revitalize our handball court on school grounds with a mural.

By making connections from common core classwork to creative projects in the Art room through the art of writing and exercising literacy skill, my children will be better able to grasp the global importance of reading in their lives as learners.

They will engage in scholarly action enacting the mural project on school grounds in part by applying writing and its power to the lives of the learning community and by engaging in service.
