Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students will be working on a variety of STEAM projects to explore the wildlife and eclectic flora in our ecosystem. Most of the students in our school come from underserved communities and do not have access to materials to support their artistic pursuits.

Every grade level will be reached with a unique project that breathes life into their science curriculum by infusing it with their creative vision as young artists.

Through the fusion of art and science, I'd like to show them that conservation can really be a work of art!

2nd Graders will construct and decorate recycled materials with watercolor and tempera to highlight the importance of pollinators such as butterflies and bees in maintaining a healthy, diverse plant system. They will study the parts and patterns on the wings of insects when designing their own critters.

3rd Graders will use all-natural sculpting dough to create a lush garden of flowers inspired by native Florida plants. They will decorate these sculptures using tempera paint and seal them with mod podge, creating an ecosystem for the butterflies and bugs made by other classes.

4th Graders will work with cyanotype paper to learn about the effects of UV radiation as well as create artistic compositions of leaves and flowers growing in their own backyards. They will also create a collage of found materials by gluing and painting recycled bottle caps, keeping microplastics out of our oceans by turning them into art!

5th Graders will be studying the marine life in Florida and creating 3D saltwater fish using recycled materials, which they will color with acrylic paint. They will create large panoramic drawings of the coral reef habitats that are facing bleaching and destruction.
