This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The ceramics program is designed to further enrich my student's art STEAM magnet experience through an art form we have not yet had the opportunity to partake in. The items I have requested will be able to fill the appropriate supply list to make a thought-provoking and dynamic ceramics and 3D art curriculum a reality.

Students will be able to engage with a new art form that will teach them the basics and fundamentals of both hand building and throwing on the pottery wheel, which is an essential part of their art making journey.

This will also broaden and develop their knowledge of Studio Art. Students and future students will also be able to continue the program if all the supplies are bought and our goal is met. We currently house two wonderful kilns that have been approved for use for this year but have not been utilized since the old art teacher was unable to get the program running before retiring.

My students are special because they exhibit a passion and dedication to continue to excel and refine their skills in their art practice. They are always willing to learn something new and creative as a way to challenge themselves in the craft they feel brings them joy, peace and balance. My students have been asking me for a ceramics lesson for two years now and due to insufficient funds, we have been unable to obtain pottery wheels and other essential supplies to get this program running. The idea of a magnet program is to give students a unique educational choice on a specific area of study, in this case it is art. With a ceramic program in place, we would thrive and add an additional experience to kids who truly appreciate the arts.
