My Students

My students are motivated by hands-on projects and meaningful activities unfortunately, my science classroom came with the very basics! I want my students to prepare their own slides and make observations, construct basic circuits, and solve a "crime" in the context of their units of study.

The students in my rural middle school (I teach grades 6, 7, and 8) come from all walks of life, and they're learning to solve problems, communicate, and think critically in and out of the classroom.

Many of my students have never left the state, and a trip to the nearest city is an amazing experience. They are inquisitive, challenging, and always surprising. Students willingly complete assignments, but the tasks that always get their attention require them to brainstorm, work together, experiment, fail, succeed, and share. In other words, the "wow" moments cement the lesson!

My Project

The slides (blank and prepared) and tweezers will allow my Life Science students to engage in hands-on labs all year long as they learn about plant and animal cells, genetics, and classification. The supplies can also be used to present lab safety techniques. The Biology Forensics Class Kit and electrical circuit supplies are for my 8th graders. Many of my students have expressed interest in attending a trade school, and the hands-on opportunities in biology and physics may motivate some budding scientists to continue their education.

The difference between reading about a circuit and constructing your own circuit is almost indescribable.

And just imagine being asked to draw a plant cell without ever seeing an actual plant cell! Your generous donations will allow rural middle school students to explore new worlds and engage in fascinating new learning activities.
