My Students

The students of our school are very bright and hard working. They come from all different walks of life and can handle anything thrown in their path, but they need our help! We are a Title I school and with that 100% of our students receive free lunch. Our school is one of the oldest buildings in the Bronx and we have a very diverse population. Our students speak many different languages from all over the world such as: English, Spanish, Hindi, Bengali and Arabic (just to name the ones I know because there are many more). We keep our students learning and growing with many clubs and after school opportunities such as: the Green team, basketball team, Student Council, Wellness Council, Technology Club, and many more!

My Project

Learning the game of Kin Ball is a great opportunity for our students to get competitive and learn good sportsmanship as well. If we are able to start a Kin Ball club after/before school, our students would get a chance to play a game that they never have before. It is exciting and there are multiple teams out on the floor at once. Once the students learn how to perform under pressure and learn the general rules of the game, they will be able to hone in on their abilities.

By starting this club, our students are getting an amazing chance to gear up for playing middle school sports.

Within this game, you must stay calm and look for your open teammates. You must look for open spots on the floor to make it harder for the other team and you must also move quickly. Working with a team can be difficult, but playing in this club will give our students a chance to do it every week!

Each time we meet, the students will warm up with a fitness activity. The fitness dice that would be incorporated in this project would be a great addition as well! This makes fitness more fun and like a game. The students will get chances to roll the dice and see what exercise comes up for them ALL to do. Between the fitness activities and learning the game of Kin Ball, our students will have a great opportunity to train their minds to think critically.
