Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although most students come from low-income homes or homes with limited parental school involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school every day, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders is some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

Many of the students in my class this year are in temporary housing. It breaks my heart to realize that many won’t have the opportunity to experience Thanksgiving with a feast amongst their loved ones. That is why I would like to host it in the classroom, since our class is a family!

The disposable dinnerware set is requested because we will have a feast in which children will bring main dishes from home to share with their classmates, and it will minimize messes.

The garbage bags will be used to clean up afterwards. Each kid can pick a festive headband or themed glasses to wear throughout the day.

The gummy bears, jello, and fruit snacks will be provided for each child to enjoy as a special treat. These are all snacks they enjoy and will make the celebration that much more meaningful for them.
