Help Mrs. T.

This year Independence Charter School's gifted support classes will study the topic of textiles, through critical thinking activities that include research, writing, oral presentations, field trips, and hands on projects. We have 135 second through eighth graders, with high IQ's eager to participate in the program. Our school does not have a budget for gifted support. I have planned our year of study to culminate with quilt exchanges with other classrooms somewhere in the world. We're enrolled in iEarn an organization that pairs together classrooms who want to collaborate on learning projects. Our school is a proponent of multi-cultural studies and world languages. Each student in our school is provided with instruction in full immersion Spanish or a daily period of Spanish instruction. Our social studies curriculum emphasis's country studies, and global topics. I'm planning for our gifted support classes to share their learning with the rest of the school, and also will encourage and support any proposals that students wish to pursue as a result of their studies. For the quilt exchange, we will partner with classrooms somewhere in the world to explore each others fables. Students will each research and depict fables in a square. Squares will be exchanged and then made into quilts. The study of textiles would not be complete without working with some kind of textile. ICS needs kind donors to help provide the materials that will make this topic truly memorable. Thanks!
