Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students learn to read best when they are exposed to a rich variety of fiction and nonfiction texts about engaging topics. These "text sets" (which include multiple titles about science topics as well as collections of series books by favorite authors) will be the focus of our English Language Development (ELD) courses for the remainder of this year in first grade.

These books will bring to life the science of plants and butterflies, as well as the magic of change.

Our spring science units about life cycles are always engaging and hands on for students. These beautifully illustrated and accessible texts will expose students to rich vocabulary and support their critical conversations about the topics they are learning.

Our unit on "series" books includes Pedro, Sofia, Max + Zoe, King + Kayla, and other well-loved characters like Mr. Putter + Tabby and Harold + Mudge. Reading multiple books about the same characters builds students' understanding of narrative structure and character change.

This project also includes a much needed pencil-sharpener and labels to support classroom organization and help students keep track of everything that they are reading!
