My Students

3rd Grade is an exciting time where many students move from learning to read to reading to learn. Third graders are vibrant, fun-loving children who seek knowledge in everything around them. They want to learn about anything and everything. They are curious about the world around them and work to understand and navigate their worlds.

My students are a diverse group of learners who come from a variety of cultures around the world.

While I have students who were born in the United States, I also have students who are new to the country. All of the students in my classroom will benefit from this project throughs book clubs and reading groups. The books on this list are from diverse authors, and the characters are ones who look like and also have some of the same experiences as some of the students in my classroom.

My Project

These two text sets will be used for all students in my classroom over time. Students will be able to read and discuss texts where the characters in the texts look like them and are more relatable to them and what their lives are like in the present day.

Students enjoy reading current books about characters with whom they can relate.

These books challenge students to stretch their minds and think about their own lives as well as the world around them. One of the books also integrates history with a student perspective.
