Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year, at least half of my students are Central American. But they do not see themselves represented in my classroom. Please, help me give my students a text set that shows representations of Central American culture. They books I have selected revolve around the themes of immigration, family, indigenous communities, overcoming obstacles, empathy and fairness. All of these are significant themes for my students. I want to start honoring my students by teaching Central American Week which will be from October 7-11, 2024. I will be teaching the lessons I have included with this text set during that week. I know that my Central American students will feel seen and appreciated with them. This text set will benefit all my students because diverse books can help students from different backgrounds work together. My focus this year is to create a culturally diverse and inclusive classroom environment and this text set is the first step to accomplishing that. I will use the TPT card to purchase supplemental lessons and activities that focus on Central America.
