My Students

We need your help if our voices are going to be heard! At the end of this semester, our school's fledgling drama program will perform its first ever musical, but there's a chance no one will hear it because we don't have the microphones we need.

My students are overwhelmingly from low income homes in Maryland and our school does not have a large budget for many of the school programs that their wealthier peers take for granted.

Despite all the research that shows how important the arts are in a child's educational and social development, there's only so much money to spend, and all of it goes to books and other classroom supplies.

My Project

For the first time this year, we have an afterschool drama program and are hoping to mount our first production at the end of this semester. The students have a lot of talent, and are very dedicated. After a full day of classes, they stay after school until 6:00 in the evening for rehearsals and some of them are even giving up a portion of their lunch and recess time to help write the script and music for the fall show. After putting in so much time and effort, it would be very sad if their labors went unheard because we couldn't get them the microphone equipment they needed.

Every child has something to say to the world, and with your help, we will able to provide them with the means to raise their voices and be heard.
