My Project

We are currently reviewing and practicing math concepts and reading skills to prepare for our state tests. Students have a hard time staying engaged and interested. I'm trying to help them experience less dread and more excitement. I have used the idea of looking for "squirrels" (distractor questions) in their multiple choice selections on assessments. Students have responded more positively to methods like these in the past.

I chose books about squirrels (the distractors) and some math games to reinforce the ideas of staying focused and paying careful attention as they study.

I think having these out during our reviews will ease feelings and motivate my students. Having a fun theme encourages and supports them. When students are less anxious, they are happier and more positive.

I have also included stickers to place on notes offering them compliments and plenty of praise, trail mix to snack on during testing sessions, and stuffed animals (squirrels) to keep nearby for reminding them to focus.

I am sure this project will give them great memories and cheer. They will look forward to testing instead of having worries about it.
