Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Density is a physical property used to describe matter. During this investigation, students will identify unknown substances by measuring their densities and comparing their results to a list of known densities. The density of an object also determines how it will behave in water. If an object is more dense than water it will sink when placed in water, and if it is less dense than water it will float. Students will make predictions about how each cube will behave in water and then test their predictions. Students will also develop and carry out a procedure for separating a mixture of sand, salt, iron filings, and wax. The coffee filters will be used for one of these steps.

I am confident that my students will begin to realize that they are scientists and that science is all around them - all the time!

In an era where college and career readiness is a prominent factor in the teaching and learning process, STEM education is becoming more and more important.

I know that my students will achieve greater learning outcomes, given access to 21st-century tools and content that will encourage them to think deeply.
