Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher in a high poverty/low-income school, students are faced with numerous challenges before they even enter the school doors each day. Regardless of what is occurring at home, I try to create a classroom environment that makes them excited about school and learning. In order to continue doing this, I would like to add a variety of transition activities into our classroom. I would use these at the end of our school day while we are transitioning to go home. These activities include legos, playdough, pattern blocks, and geoboard supplies. I have seen other classrooms use these types of supplies in the mornings and how successful it has been. I would like to start building it in my own classroom. The students I have observed in other classrooms are engaged, motivated and excited about these activities. I see how it brings out the individual strengths and creativity of each child.

I will use these hands on transition activities to create a calm and quiet environment before the students go home at the end of each day.

They will also provide an open-ended and developmentally appropriate foundation of engineering for elementary students. In today's changing society, I find it important to enhance all areas of learning because the opportunities are endless for our future leaders. If they begin experiencing a wide variety of learning activities in their early years, this can help them grow socially, intellectually, and creatively for the future.
