My Project

As a Special Education Teacher, independent work time is key to be able to hold small group instruction. Independent work in special education is basically any activity that a student is able to do completely independently. The type of work that you give to a student will depend on his or her cognitive ability and IEP goals. Currently, in my classroom, independent work time is time spent on their reading or math computer programs. While, their computer programs are an important part of their learning, I think I can use this time more strategically and incorporate task boxes.

Task boxes are one of the most effective and easy-to-implement hands-on resources for any classroom.

They can cover a variety of skills, meet students at their instructional level, and can be easily used for data tracking. Essentially, they are activities aligned to a students’ learning and transition goals neatly packed into a bin. Most importantly, we are teaching students to complete activities as independently as possible. Once it’s set up, it’s set up forever.

I am asking for a donation of Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards, to share with three other self contained classroom teachers. With the gift card donations, we will be able to search TPT for a variety of task box ideas already created by amazing teachers from across the country! By sharing these gift cards each teacher will be able to individualize tasks for our students. We will also be able to share items...A Terrific Task Box Library of skills! In order to make this successful, I am also asking for HP ink and Astrobright white and colored card stock. The last item needed is Jarlink plastic zip envelopes in order to keep pieces together and organized!
