Active, hands-on, 6th grade inclusion classroom seeks help for noisy room! My class of 27 students come from diverse backgrounds and roughly one third of my students have learning disabilities. My class is very well behaved, but struggles with an acoustically unfriendly classroom.

Our classroom has a huge echo problem, and even when our students turn over a paper it sounds about the room. This makes it very difficult for instructions to be heard and for easily distracted students to focus. I purchased a 9'x 13'rug to help absorb the sound with little result. You can imagine the roar every time we have students push their chairs in to come to the rug or to line up for lunch!

I attended classes where the chairs all had tennis balls that had been slit and then placed over the ends of their chair legs. This really cut down on a lot of noise in the classroom. It would be much easier for students to focus without the sounds of chair legs scraping and echoing about the room. The tennis balls would also help to absorb other sounds in the room just by being close to the hallow floor. Not to mention, it is much safer for the chair legs to be covered when students place the chairs on the desks at the end of the day. What a difference a few tennis balls could make, not only for my current class, but for years of classes to come!

You could make it possible for my students to focus during class. Your help could prevent us from all wearing hearing aids when we're thirty! Thank you for your thought and consideration.
