“The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics”
- Paul Halmos
Our school is an urban public school in upstate New York. We are extremely fortunate to have a diverse student population and a wonderful sense of family. We have a high poverty rate. 100% of my students receive free/reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
My students love math workshop and I definitely want to foster that love! Unfortunately my students lack the necessary manipulatives to help them build a strong foundation in mathematics.
My Project
My students need to build a strong foundation in mathematics to grow as mathematicians. Ten frames are the perfect way for students to start growing their mathematic brain.
Having a variety of manipulatives in the classroom will allow students the opportunity to understand and connect concretely to math.
Classroom lessons will teach students the strategies and skills to navigate through mathematical problems and develop thinking that will allow them to grow as mathematicians.
The ten frames for our classroom will help my current students and students for years to come as they will be a part of our classroom centers.
