This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach Pre-K in a diverse urban elementary school that is located in South Gate, California. The majority of my students are from a lower socioeconomic background. My class is comprised of 24 fun and enthusiastic 4-year-old students. The majority of my students are from households with meager educational resources. Although they come to school with very limited skills and experiences, my students are hard-working, resilient, and full of curiosity.

In order to bring out the creativity that lies within, my students need art supplies that are appropriate for young children.

Painting is an activity that my Pre-K students eagerly look forward to the most, and in class, we paint almost daily. My students need small, easy to hold tempera sticks to help make painting easier. Being that my students are so young when they first start school, conventional paint is difficult to use at the beginning of the school year. Tempera paint sticks are easy and fun for young children to use as a first medium, and they help develop much-needed fine motor skills.
