Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I always start my class with a class chant where my students shout and cheer that they are “brave, smart, and unstoppable”. As their teacher this year, I am beyond proud of what they can accomplish under the strain of the year 2020—a year we are not soon to forget. What my kids lack in technology and resources, they make up with their boundless determination and resilience. I only teach math and science--the goal is for all 46 of my students to have math manipulatives to strengthen their learning!

Half of my students are learning from home and half are in the classroom with me—my absolute hope is that I can provide a classroom environment that is both positive and meaningful.

My Project

The goal of my math and science class is to always make learning fun and unique for all of my 46 students, both virtual and face to face! Some concepts are entirely hands-on, such as our time unit that will be coming up soon! It's my hope that the students all have access to clocks that they can manipulate and see the workings of how time turns.

Since I only teach math and science, I will always gravitate towards more hands-on learning.

In this project, we also have a need for more coins so all of my students will be able to have their own to count for real-world skills! We are also diligently strengthening our math skills, and it will be a boost to the students' learning to have their own individual abacus at their desks to help with addition and subtraction!

All in all, these items will definitely deliver an awesome experience for the students. They will definitely be so excited to simply have something to call their own in my math and science class! Thank you!
