My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss couldn't have said it any better. Books open doors and create opportunities through knowledge. My students are just beginning their school careers and are so eager to learn!

My students are an amazing group of excited 3-5 year-olds, some with disabilities, who are so thrilled be be in "big school".

Their enthusiasm for school and their desire to soak up everything around them is pretty awesome. And there are not words to describe how much my students love books. After requests from many of my parents to borrow books so that they can read with their children at home each night, we have begun to use our classroom books as a lending library. Each night my students choose one book to take home. When they bring the book back the following day, they get to choose another for that evening. The response (to an essentially parent-created program) has been amazing! My parents and my students cannot get enough books and all of our families are participating.

My Project

As a first year teacher, I have spent the last few years trying to gather essential literature and my favorite titles, in anticipation of my first class. Adding books to our classroom library will do many things. It will increase the options for classroom reading and engagement. It will give us different mediums through which we can fall in love with reading. And it will diversify the types of books that my parents are getting to read with their children each night.

Books open doors.

Books create conversations. Books change lives. Help my students have the opportunity to fall in love with reading by putting new books in their hands and new words in their vocabularies, and new thoughts in their brains.
