My Students

I provide speech and language therapy intervention for students with communication disorders and/or learning disabilities from grades K-8. All of my students have great potential to reach their academic goals. They are kind, caring, and have a natural curiosity for learning. With the proper supports available, I believe my students can exceed expectations and become independent and successful. As an educator and a therapist, it is my responsibility to create an environment that is conducive to learning by having the necessary resources available to help all of my students reach their goals.

My Project

My students require speech and language intervention to access their curriculums and achieve their academic goals. Without this needed intervention, students would not succeed academically. The challenges that we have been facing during COVID-19 have taken a toll on parents, teachers, students, and most importantly students with disabilities. In the face of these trying times, we have had to transition to remote learning in a moment’s notice. We are now required to provide speech teletherapy services, which require a significant amount of time learning new platforms and technologies. In this new remote learning environment, a fully functional laptop is also required. It becomes increasingly frustrating when dealing with tools that simply do not function well and it also takes time away from students’ learning. In the coming months, it is very likely that we will be required to continue providing quality speech teletherapy services at home or in the office. As a result, there will no longer be a need for worksheets, manipulatives, board games, etc. The thought of not interacting with my students face-to-face is disheartening; however, this is the reality we are faced with. In order to provide the best quality teletherapy (remote speech therapy), we will need a laptop. The students would be able to enjoy technology-based lessons and make good use of the time spent learning with a fully functional computer.
