Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach physics, biology, chemistry, earth science, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate Physics. The students all love applied science and hands-on activities. I teach two sections of 7th grade Integrated Science, one section of Physics, one section of Earth Science and International Baccalaureate Physics with a total of 175 students. My school is located in an urban area and has 2,900 students in it. Our school is the oldest one in the city.

My students are a diverse mix of low and high-income urban students.

They represent many ethnic and racial groups. I also teach a wide array of classes.

My Project

I have been teaching astrophysics and astronomy to students for the past eleven years without going out into nature for some great outdoor education. I recently attended an astronomy lecture at a National Park. The event sparked the curiosity of everyone, including children and teens present. As I continue to incorporate more outdoor lessons into my classroom, I would love to begin planning lessons around the telescope. I plan on hosting star viewing nights and activities with my students after school. I would love to inspire future scientists with experiences of the night sky.
