My Students

Our school is a specialized school that focuses on empowering young teens involved in the juvenile justice system to embrace education and fulfilling career paths. This school year has focused on hope and possibility and what people can accomplish as a united force if we support one another. As a School Social Worker, I am focused on supporting students with social-emotional learning and life skills through experiential activities such as planting, creative arts, and our most recent endeavor- cooking. Our students are creative and eager to learn new things and many students have identified cooking as a skill they would like to learn and we would like to make it happen. We do not have access to a full kitchen so we are looking for some basic cooking equipment and supplies to get our cooking program up and running. Our goal is to teach collaborative learning while doing fun and tasty activity!

My Project

*Students will learn skills to foster independent living skills such as cooking and learning how to eat healthily. Many of our students may not always have a family at home to cook regular meals and are curious how they can make delicious, healthy food on a budget. Some of our youth are in foster care and will be transitioning to independent living so learning cooking skills is a must.

*Students will learn how to foster collaboration with their peers to complete the cooking challenge.

Our goal is to help students to be comfortable asking for help and supporting others vs. prioritizing conflict and competitiveness over one's well-being. Students will reap the rewards of collaboration and enjoy a meal in the process!
