I teach juniors at Pine Tree High School. I have a mixture of advanced, on level, and special needs students. My lessons are better if I can vary and adapt delivery for my students. We are a Title I School which means a significant number of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Each year I look for new ways to increase engagement for my students. I have found that if I can vary technology and interactive learning, then my students enjoy learning more.
My Project
The purpose of the workstation is to provide an updated technology workstation that will support development of 21st century skills such as speaking and presenting, collaborating, and the technology integration. Several times throughout the year students design presentations aligned to course standards. They create a poetry presentation using Google Slides or Adobe Spark, they write and deliver a persuasive speech on a current issue as well as several other speaking presentations throughout the year. The goal is to improve speaking skills needed in today’s workplaces and other professional settings. I need a small workstation area to house the Chromebook, speaker, iPad, and document camera I have that will allow easy access to the equipment during presentations and the ability to share and toggle among several sources of media. It will also provide a work area for students to research and create the assignments during and outside of class.
