My Students

My school is a Bring Your Own Device school, but very few students can afford to purchase their own devices. That's why this project is so important to my classroom. With a laptop in their hands my students will be able to learn by "doing" instead of watching someone else run the equipment.

My school is filled with curious young leaders.

If they are equipped with the computers, their learning will be unstoppable. The children in this community are experienced in agriculture and fishing. They are curious to learn more about the science behind the surrounding area. With this laptop, they can research the science and history behind the resources of this naturally rich region.

My Project

Helping me put computers in my classroom will allow me to set up learning stations to use in science and social studies lessons. I prefer to think of myself as a guide to the learners in my room. I plan to set up a research and explore station with this laptop. Students will be assigned to use this laptop during learning stations. I cannot fully explain how excited and engaged they become when they discover that day's lessons are setup as learning stations, as apposed to teacher-led discussion or lecture. Engaged learners are more likely to retain new learning.

Many students have difficulty staying focused for extended amounts of time when the class is listening to lecture or having to share devices between numerous students.

This laptop will be placed in the hands of my students. Many of them do not have computers in their own home, so having the opportunity to use this equipment may be the only chance they will have to learn to use technology. This will ensure that they will be ready for future experiences with technology.
