This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a community and Title I school in a low income section of the Bronx, resources are very limited. My students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. They also have a range of skills and learning needs. Many students require differentiation, accommodations, and modifications to the general education curriculum to ensure access and equal opportunity to learn. Although some may struggle, they are eager to learn and push themselves to succeed academically.

My Project

As a special education teacher in the Bronx, many of my students' parents have opted for them to participate in remote learning to ensure their health and safety. Due to 75% of my special education students opting for remote learning, I am required to provide their differentiation, modifications, and accommodations in Geometry through a computer. With the Microsoft Surface Pro X Touchscreen laptop, I will be able to quickly model examples of diagrams, which many of my students benefit from, by simply sharing my screen; giving students the ability to watch me write directly on the document. This will also allow me to provide more thoughtful and individualized feedback since I will be able to write directly on digital student work. I will be able to record my screen as well and show the examples being worked out by hand as I complete them using the touch screen. This will be helpful so that students can use the videos to review the examples and the lessons as many times as needed. Many special education students need more than one overview of a topic to fully comprehend concepts in math. Having a touchscreen laptop will make remote teaching for me much for practical for my special education students by handwriting instead of typing. Typing out math work, especially symbols, is very difficult and time consuming. It is also very difficult for students with limited access to a computer and with disabilities to learn how where to find mathematical symbols in google docs, slides, etc. Overall, it will be much more efficient for me to write out the work and the different mathematical symbols as opposed to typing them. Lastly, the external drive is for me to be able to save large files of lesson recordings in one place.
