Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are creative, unique and special in their own ways.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in foster homes or foster shelters, others come from single parent family homes and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical".

From the minute they walk in the door of my school I focus on their potential and growth while they are in our building. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

The lack of computers at home makes it difficult for my students to meet their weekly goals for technology usage. The programs available to them are very beneficial in diagnosing their weaknesses and addressing individual needs in order to help each student improve in reading, math, and science; assisting in developing critical thinking skills that will be used for college and career. Since my students don't have the technology available at home, it is expected they complete these programs at school. These technology devices would help in achieving these goals by providing the necessary tools they need. The laptop, digital multimedia receiver, and tablets will also be used for presentations, research in the classroom, and STEAM and robotic programs that will expand knowledge for our students and prepare them for these competitive fields in today's society. Having reliable technology that is able to run the necessary programs will put our students on the right track to future success in life.
