This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a music teacher in a city public school. I work with students from Pre-k through grade 5. All of my students are on the autism spectrum. In music class, we strive to meet the needs of each individual student.

My students thrive in music class and use music as a way to express themselves.

The students love coming to music class. They spend time singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Our students work towards putting on several performances for the community each year.

My Project

Adjusting back to school has been challenging for everyone. Social distancing protocols and smaller class sizes has changed how we work with our students both in and out of the classroom.

Now more than ever, technology plays an important part in education.

Our music classroom has some great technology (such as iPads and sound equipment) but we need more support for this technology to work. Charging cables and other items will allow my students to use the technology we already have. Floor cushions will allow the students to properly distance and stay in their own space while creating music using technology.
